Brief History of Kian Shakouri
During my school days I was always involved in sport activities such as football and basketball. Out of school I pursued sports at the AT7 centre where I had the opportunity to do activities which weren’t available at school such as outdoor pursuit courses, and I also got the chance to train with the Coventry Crusaders basketball team.
For many years I was always interested in boxing but was never allowed to join a club so instead I started Shotokan Karate in the year 2000. At the start Karate was good, I slowly climbed up the grades and after five years, I reached brown double red belt (one away from black). However just before my black belt grading, the prices rose and I had already got fed up with it and had really lost interest, so I left.
Two years later in 2007 I found Sil Lum Hark Fu Mun. I originally started training once a week under Sifu Paul Burkinshaw. After a short while, I decided I wanted to learn more so I started training twice a week in Kung Fu. It wasn’t long before I was training almost every day in Kung Fu, Kickboxing and Grappling and Wrestling. In the latter part of 2008 I started to train with Aaron Marsh as well. Aaron is one of Sifu Paul Burkinshaws old students, and runs a fitness and fighting class at the academy. I also took advantage of the monthly training days, sparring days and weapon seminars ( including the butterfly knives, fan, spear, broad sword, double axes, double daggers and the wooden dummy) to help aid my progress and desire to learn and improve.
I have also taken part in several courses gaining qualifications as a first aider at work, BCCMA level 2 Coaching and a BCCMA Qingda judge. I am hoping to achieve the next level which is will qualify as Qingda referee in the near future.
Since I started training at Sil Lum Hark Fu Mun I have entered several national competitions and inter-club competitions. My main achievements so far are:-
2008 BCCMA British Champion -65kgs Boys Qingda sparring
2009 WKA Open British Champion -65kgs Boys Qingda sparring
2009 WKA Open British Champion Weapon -16yrs Boys
2009 BCCMA British Champion -65kgs Boys Qingda sparring
2010 WKA Open British Champion -70kgs Kickboxing
2010 BCCMA British Champion -70kgs Qingda sparring
2011 BCCMA Novice Champion -70kgs Sanshou
2011 WKA Open British Champion -70kgs Light-Continuous sparring
At the moment I am concentrating on training for San Shou / Sanda fight where the competition is much fiercer and the contact is a lot heavier.
In April of 2010 I achieved my 1st Degree Black sash in Sil Lum Hark Fu Mun Kung Fu Kung fu.
At the moment I am a pre-black sash in Sil Lum Kune Kickboxing and I am hoping to keep progressing in Kung Fu, Kickboxing and the grappling styles of the club.
